"Show your Police Record Check (PRC)"
Thursday, 04 February 2010

For those team officials who applied for a Police Record Check in the fall, most of you have probably started to receive your completed PRC in the mail. The WEHL does not receive a copy of the completed PRC. In order for your PRC to be completed, you will be required to show a copy of your approved PRC. Please DO NOT send your completed PRC to the WEHL. Legally, we are unable to keep your actual PRC (with special Ottawa Police embossed seal) on file and a PRC is not considered valid without the seal so photocopies are not acceptable.

We have scheduled the following "Show your PRC" times:

Monday, February 8 from 7 to 8PM
Wednesday, February 10 from 7 to 8PM
Thursday, February 11 from 6 to 7PM
Saturday, February 13 from 9 to 10AM

Please come to Dulude Arena during these times with your completed Police Record Check (only valid with the special Ottawa Police embossed seal). We will verify your PRC and record the fact in the Hockey Canada database. If you have not yet received your completed PRC, do not worry. We will make arrangments to hold other "Show your PRC" nights in the future.

Affiliations and 5 Game Rule after January 10th
Monday, 11 January 2010

It is now January 11th and any games that an Affiliated Player plays with the affiliated team must be tracked. What this means this year with the Club System of Affiliations is that :

  • After January 10th an affiliated player can play only 5 games (regular season and playoff games) at their affiliated level. Players in the Club system are limited to 5 games only total (not 5 games with each team they play with.)
  • Any player that plays a 6th game can not return to play on his registered team.
  • Home Team Coaches are responsible for keeping track of the number of games a player has played with the affiliated team after January 10th. The Home Team Coach should be aware of when his player is used because a team wishing to use an affiliated player may not use him or her without prior consent of the team with which the affiliated player is registered.
  • Tournament and exhibition games are not included in the 5 game rule. Prior to January 10th, there is no limit on the number of games played as an affiliate.
  • Placement of a player that has played more than 5 games at a higher level will be determined by the WEHL Executive.

NOTE: The West End Hockey League operates with the Club System of Affiliations within the Bytown District (BMHL). Any games (regular season or playoff) played within the BMHL must follow the rules of affiliation of the BMHL. Movement of affiliations must be in an "across and upward" direction when affiliating a player for games played within the BMHL. What this means is that a player can only be affiliated in a movement that is "across and up". For example, an Atom B player may be affiliated only to a Peewee B (across) or to a Peewee A team (up). An Atom A player may only be affiliated to a Peewee A team (across) or the first Competitive level (up). A player may not affiliated downwards, even if it is "up" to the next division (i.e. Peewee A player may not affiliate to Bantam B). In summary, whenever you play a game against a team from within the BMHL, movement of affiliations must be across first, then up.

However, rules of affiliations differ for any games played at tournaments sanctioned by the ODMHA. The ODMHA rules of affiliation govern the movement of players for affiliation purposes during tournament games. However, it is best to check with the tournament organizers to clarify the rules of affiliations for their tournament.

UPDATE FROM ODHA REGARDING H1N1

Due to recent events, the ODHA is strongly recommending that associations and leagues begin discussing contingency plans should a team or league be impacted by absent players due to illness.

The ODHA needs to begin tracking this disease's impact on its programs. Therefore, from this day forward, Team Trainers are to notify their division Convenors, who will in turn notify the VP Junior or VP Senior of any player's or team official's absence due to flu-like illnesses.
